FRIDAY – Every Friday night, I cleanse my scalp & hair with a non-sulfate shampoo. The shampoos I’m currently using are Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle or Kinky Curly Come Clean. I only massage the shampoo on my scalp (not my hair), that way I don’t get the the tangles & dryness I normally get when I massage shampoo into my hair. My hair gets cleansed & clarified while the shampoo runs down the hair as I rinse, then on second wash, I co-wash with V05 Moisture Milks. After shampooing, I do an Amla Powder (Indian Ayurvedic) / Deep Conditioning treatment on my scalp & hair (without combing or brushing), then cover with plastic cap (or bag) and keep in overnight. The ingredients I use in my Amla mixture are: 4 spoonfules of Amla powder, 1 spoonful of Shikakai powder, 1 spoonful of Aritha powder, 4 spoonfuls of Vatika indian oil, a creamy water-based deep conditioner or masque, and Coconut milk to give paste a creamy milk chocolate texture and more conditioning benefits.
SATURDAY – Saturday morning, while in shower, I rinse out the Amla treatment and co-wash 2 to 3 times to get it all out. I then apply Aussie Moist conditioner and detangle in 4 sections with Denman brush, cover with plastic cap for a few minutes, do what I gotta do to my body while in shower, take off plastic cap, do a quick rinse (I do not rinse all the conditioner out). I then usually do a “Conditioner Only” wash & go. I use 2 different kinds of styling conditioners for my “Conditioner Only” wash & go style. Right now I’m using Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa condish mixed with 3 fav oils (EVOO, Avocado, Coconut), do a quick rinse with tepid water, then for my 2nd condish I’m currently using Tresemme Flawless Curls, smooth that in, do another quick rinse with COLD water whichs closes hair cuticle & gives more curl definition & shine, then shake & style as desired. If I want more elongated curls, I will apply & smooth in some EcoStyler brown gel over the condish, quick rinse with COLD water again, shake & style. For extra extra shine, sometimes I will do a final sealant of EVOO.

TUESDAY – Tuesday nights are hot oil scalp/hair treatment nights using my home-made 12-oil mix. I put bottle of oil in hot water to warm it up (I do not heat oil with microwave as it may take away the health benefits in the oils). After applying oil to scalp & hair and giving myself a nice scalp massage, I cover with plastic cap then apply a hot towel for a few minutes to get oil to penentrate more. I then put satin cap over plastic cap and sleep with oil in overnight.

WEDNESDAY – Co-wash day (no shampoo), and only detangle with my fingers.

ONCE A MONTH – I do a protein (strengthening) treatment with a mix of mayonnaise, 2 egg yolks, and my 3 fav oils (EVOO, Coconut & Avocado). My weekly Amla (Indian Ayurvedic) treatments are strengthening for the hair as well.

DAILY – Every night on my non-treatment nights, I heavily moisturize my hair with a home-made conditioning  moisturizer made of Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa conditioner & my 3 fav oils (EVOO, Avocado, Coconut), seal in moisture with EVOO, then put into 4 braids or 2 loose ponytails. Every night I sleep with satin cap or scarf, and sometimes use the baggy/bagging method where I will sleep with a plastic bag or cap after moisturizing hair to keep my hair moist while I sleep. I only use baggy method if I know I’m doing a wet style the next day.

STYLING – If I want to refresh a wash & go, I will spritz & smooth my hair with my homemade spritzer of water, Herbal Essence none of your frizzness conditioner & EVOO and sometimes will smooth in some EcoStyler brown gel & seal with EVOO. Some of my dry styles include braidouts, twistouts or puffs. Every now and then I may do a protective style like twists, ponytails or buns.

I love her style!!

Shida’s hair is off the chain gorgeous, she has said she has 4a or 4b (I forget) hair, however, her hair looks amazingly soft and shiney. Her tutorial reviews are very thorough and I plan on purchasing some of the products she’s reviewed as well. I too love all her styles.

I’m so glad that I’ve been able to get a better understanding of how to style my natural tresses for the corporate office through both you and shida.

    Thanks guys,
    Much respect

  • I’ve been watching Shida on Youtube for awhile, and her styling tips are on POINT! Thanks for this daily hair routine, it really gives me some ideas!
