Protective Styles: Faux Locs, Twists, Braids & More
Protective styles like braids and twists aren’t only for the summer when visiting the beach. You are catching everyone wearing them from celebrities to the everyday girl! They can be seen on the red carpets recently too. Protective styles have been becoming increasingly popular with some “new” and “throwback” styles that are super trendy this year. Check them out.
I am really feeling this faux locs trend! I want to do it but I hear it takes alot of time. Not sure if I have the patience to sit that long. I probably wouldn’t try to do them myself. I see alot of people say they did theirs over 3 days or a week, but I don’t know if I have time to go to work with half of my hair done lol.
These are super cute! Not sure who she is or a photo credit but I love this with the 2 different colors.
I like Teyana Taylor’s grey faux locs!
OMG, literally the day before I left for Costa Rica for New Years Eve, I was browsing through Tia Mowry-Hardricts pics and I immediately wanted some box braids. So I run to the store and buy all these packs of hair and attempt to do them myself. EPIC FAIL! As soon as I would start it, it would slip off of my hair. Ehh! When I have more time and patience, I think I will try it again. I looked at Youtube video after Youtube video and tons of tutorials and styles later, nothing happened. I love box braids though and might try them again this year. I wore them when I went to Europe a couple of years ago and it’s the BEST travel hair ever. No maintenance at all.
Kerry Hilson shows off amazing braids as well. She looks great with braids! :Sigh: I wish I knew how to do braids myself.
Okay now twists…I think I can do this. I am going to try these soon..maybe this weekend coming up. I’m sure it will take a long time. I have never done twists with hair added in myself. I have been watching a tone of Youtube videos, so we’ll see if I can do it. I just want to do it for about 4 weeks.
I have been seeing this girl across Tumblr and Pinterest and her twists are my inspiration. I love the size, the length and how they aren’t bulky.
When I think of crochet braids, I think of the old school ones where you could see the parts in the front and people crocheted in little wavy micro braids all over. I never did like that style when it was popular in the late 90’s, early 2000’s. It has been brought back and very huge right now! These bloggers @Nelly2fine & @Ahykonikdiva show off their crochet braids- one rocking it curly and another rocking it straight. You have so much versatility. This seems like something I could do (try) on myself easily.
Will be trying any of these protective styles this Winter?
