Kirstin’s Natural Hair story
My Transition Story
My name is Kirstin and I reside in Richmond, Virginia. I have been natural for about 18 months now. I big chopped in January 31, 2009. I have always been questioned by beauticians as to why I get perms and I never gave it much thought. I just did it, cause that was all that I saw. After much breakage and just being unhappy with my hair I decided to get braids. As I would go from one braid style to another I would take notice of how my new growth looked and I became intrigued as to what was really coming out of my scalp. Finally one day while taking braids out I started cutting all the permed pieces off and the excitement just grew inside me. Before I knew it, I my husband came home after helping someone move, and I had completed my own big chop! I went the next day to get it professionally shaped and I’ve been hooked ever since. My only regret is that I didn’t do this sooner in life, but you live and learn!
My favorite styles
I’m getting into the process of diffusing my hair and wearing it big. I also enjoy wash & go’s, twistout, and twisted roller sets. I have also been doing a lot of protective styling lately. I credit my growth to protective styling as it has been instrumental in my retaining my hair.
