Design Essentials Takes On Hair At Harlem’s Fashion Row
Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to hit up Harlem’s Fashion Row which is the yearly event of the season showcasing the fashion industry’s rising fashion designers of color. The designers that participated this year were HFR Designer of the Year Byron Lars – Byron Lars, Harlem Haberdashery, K. Milele by Kianga “Kiki Kitty” Peterson, and Josh & Nicol from London.
The Style Awards honored many fabulous people in the industry. Among those honored were HFR’s ICON 360 Award Recipient, the legendary supermodel Beverly Johnson, Journalist, lifestyle expert, and former Editor-At-Large at Essence Magazine, Emil Wilbekin, Designer Of the Year recipient Byron Lars, founder of Byron Lars Beauty Mark, Journalist Of The Year, Huffington Post’s Julee Wilson , Fashion Publicist of the Year Umindi Francis, Founder/CEO Umindi Francis Consulting Group, Celebrity Stylist Of The Year Award Recipient Wouri Vice.
Hair for the fashion show was sponsored by Design Essentials and celebrity stylist Keith Campbell.
They did several looks: messy pompadour, messy braid, big & curly and sleek. Bre from America’s Next Top Model walked in the show as well.
For hair that shines like glass, Design Essentials® Sleek Max Edge Control kept edges in place and the Hydrience Argan Moisture Replenishing Mist added shine plus heat protection to loose waves and ponytails.
Campbell created messy milkmaid braids and flowing fishtails plaits. Wild, natural locks like Bre Scullark’s from America’s Next Top Model were kept soft and hydrated with the Design Essentials® Hydrience Argan Collection Moisturizing Creme and Design Essentials® Natural Curl Enhancing Mousse.
Campbell’s team created the look on straight and naturally curly textures using Design Essentials® Sleek Max Edge Control to slick sides and Form Professional Holding Spray to keep locks volume into place.
