#FitnessFriday – Traveling & Sticking To Your Plan
I was on vacation the past week and a half. Changing your eating habits and then going on vacation makes things a bit hard :/ You know when you are on vacation you want to try all types of food and generally aren’t doing much exercising. Here are some quick tips on how to keep up while on vacation:
- Definitely try new food- but let’s think grilled fish and chicken versus fatty, fried foods. You can easily try something new without it being an unhealthy option. On the safari, the hotel I stayed at, The Sarova Mara had plenty of options in their buffet. Pretty much most of the items were healthy- but I generally headed to anything grilled or steamed and I always got some good veggies. There is a way to stick to eating healthy while on vacation.
- If my destination is around a mile or less from where I am (or maybe even a lil’ longer), why not walk it! As long as it’s in a safe area you can walk instead of hopping on public transportation. We tried to walk as much as possible which in addition to getting some cardio in, we also got to explore and people watch. The best of both worlds.
- Most hotels have gyms but who wants to go to the gym on vacation? I have a better idea- go swimming! Most hotels have pools too. While swimming is fun, you burn calories and it doesn’t feel like you are “working out”
- Eat small meals. If you want to try something new, go right ahead. But if you limit your intake then it’s not too bad. Small portions are always good and it still gives you a chance to check out the local food while not totally screwing over your diet.
These are just a few tips, but they definitely have helped me out while on vacation!
