Have you heard about the Coca Cola Pay It Forward campaign? Its’ basically about giving back! There are so many ways to give back! How do I give back?
Most of you know I am an avid thrifter…(even though I haven’t been in awhile). I love to buy gently used clothes and make them new clothes to me! Every 2 months (after years of hoarding clothes from college or that no longer fit me), I now go through my closet and take out everything I don’t wear, don’t like (you know, those impulse buys!), can’t fit, not in style (and probably won’t be in the future) and I drop them off a homeless shelters and thrift stores. Do your research though! Some stores will actually give the clothing to people in need, while some just sell the items for very low prices to people who don’t have as much, and some take the proceeds of selling the items and give to charities. Find out what local organizations actually give the items to people in need. That’s something I do on the regular!
Another great event, I participated in last year was Room Service Atlanta. This organization goes into group homes, homeless shelters, etc.. and fixes them up to update the rooms, fix up broken items, etc… Just because someone is homeless doesn’t mean they have to live in a place that is run down!
I had a blast and felt sooooo good doing it! I actually helped paint in the bathroom and bedroom and even put flooring down…something I haven’t even done in my own house! Crazy right!! Being selfless and helping others is the greatest feeling in the world. And best of all, it comes back to you! In some way, helping others always has a way of creating a blessing in your life.
How have you paid it forward?
Because a great mentor can make all the difference, Coca-Cola has teamed up with Magic Johnson, Common and Debra Lee of BET Networks to give four young people the apprenticeship experience of a lifetime.
