Bootleg Curl Former Results!

Posted on Jan 22 2013 - 3:00pm by LexiWithTheCurls

Hi All!!

The extensions are out and I am ready to go back to playing in my hair (for a little while at least lol).

I purchased some bootleg Curl Formers (not Curl Former brand) a month ago on eBay and couldn’t wait to try them. NaturallyKela had me wanting to try them sooo bad. Plus with me working out alot recently, I sweat so I want something that doesn’t look horrible when it gets bigger. I thought this would be great to last about 4 days or so during the week when I am working out.

So last night, I looked at hella tutorials to see how to use these things lol. I reached out to Kela and she was nice enough to do a short tutorial and send it to me. It was so helpful.

DSC_0454 I washed my hair with Suave Almond & Shea shampoo and conditioner. To prep the hair, I used first Motions Light Styling Foam and then I used Ouidad’s Styling Mist Setting & Holding Spray. I had to keep a spray bottle with me because I knew my hair would dry. I only had 50 curl formers which I speculated would not be enough so I sectioned off the back of my hair and braided it.

It took me about an hour and some of them pulled through like a breeze…and others…not so much. Some of them took me awhile to get through and I kept messing up. I just had to get in a rhythm. (I found out after that the ones I had trouble pulling through was because I had too much hair in it)

Here you can see that I tried to get it as close to the root as possible.  Ohhh and they weren’t long enough for all of my hair so I had about a half an inch hanging out the bottom :-( …Next time I will just pull it down a little bit but I HATE puffy roots…uggghh..  I have a tutorial/review video coming this week so full details will be there. I will post the video when it’s up.

Here are my results without pulling the curls apart:

I love the look! Can’t wait to do them again!

Oh I needed like 20 more so I could do the back and to separate some in the top that were a little larger sections! I ended up using about 7 flexi rods in the very back/bottom of my head.

What do you think about the results?

*You can purchase the ones I purchased on eBay in ExcellBay’s store for $26.99 .  I got the 50 20″ curl formers.

Very pretty. I have always wanted to try the curl formers but they were so expensive. I will purchase them on eBay.
